  3. Hostel Mariposas was my home away from home in Valparaiso. On my last night (after a repeatedly extended stay) my new friends cooked a wonderful going away dinner and we drank and danced in the street outside until the late hours of the night. I went to the bus station feeling the littlest bit heartsick to be leaving. Looking back I´d love just one more day day with the incredible view, soaking up the good vibes and love that flow through this unique place. Treat yourself - stay here.

  4. This hostel is more of a home than a hostel. Ken and Carolina welcome you with open arms and are there for your every need. My husband and I were sick when we were there and they gave us medicine and offered to take us to the clinic. They also drove us to the bus terminal when we left so we wouldnt have to carry our bags on the bus. They are so kind, it was very refreshing :) The hostel is very comfortable with a nice roof deck to BBQ and hang out with everyone... amazing views!

  6. I usually shy away from places that people describe as too "cozy", but Hostel Mariposas became my home in Valparaiso for almost 2 weeks. Kent and Carolina are incredibly warm and helpful without ever being too pushy as it can often happen in smaller places. It's located in a real neighbourhood (yet easy enough to get anywhere) and discovering and experiencing these reveals the real charm of this wonderful city. Plus, best Pacific and city views from the roof terraces!

  7. this isn't a hostal, it's a guesthouse. and if you're about to click 'stay for two nights', go ahead and make it 2 weeks. hands down, the best place I've stayed in all of South America. massive terrace with a bbq [on both locations], fast WIFI, 24 hours of hot [and powerful water], nice simple rooms and a fantastic couple who run it.

this is an absolute gem. and if I could stay 2 months here [gorgeous city as well], I would.

  8. I spent three days in Hostel Mariposas in the end of 2011 and I loved it!
Kent and Carolina are very nice people, very helpful and they welcomed us very well. The place is clean, very comfortable and has a nice atmosphere with furniture and pictures of art made by themselves. The street of the hostel is one of the most beautiful of Valparaiso, redecorated by Kent and Carolina, who made it unique. There is a balcony at the hostel, with a great view of the town and the sea. Excellent experience!

  9. Welcome to Valparaiso!
    Este casa es tu casa.
Since we began to restore these old world buildings four years ago, our goal has been to create a relaxed living environment for travelers who wish to feel at home during their stay in the port city of Valparaiso.
All of our accommodations are individual private rooms with either single or double beds with lock and key for your added privacy and security. You will not find any dorm rooms with wall to wall bunk beds in this hostel. There are plenty of new clean bathrooms so as not to worry about getting "put on hold."
The fully equipped kitchens have everything you need to prepare meals for yourself or for large groups, which is always encouraged.
    Not enough?
Each rooftop terrace has a bar-b-que grill, tables and chairs for that peaceful breakfast overlooking the ocean, or for small evening gatherings accompanied by the lights of the city.

To accommodate many international travelers and students, we can speak English, Spanish, French, but only understand ein bisschen Deutsch.
Free services included are: wifi, cable t.v., laundry facilities, hot water 24/7, towels, linens, and general information to help you with your travels.

Cerro Mariposas is considered the Geographic center of Valparaiso and we are located directly next to the historic Ascensor Mariposa and only a ten minute walk to the house and museum of Pablo Neruda, La Sebastiana, and about 5 to 15 minutes to nearly all the other points of interest the city has to offer.

    Hasta la vista.

  12. I have travelled all over this world, staying in literally hundreds of hostels in the process.
Whilst this modest establishment may not be the grandest facility, it is most definitely my favourite. I was pretty beat up when I arrived here, but the reception I received from the Kent and his wife made me feel instantly at home. The views from the rooftop terrace are unbeatable and are best combined with the wood fired BBQ and copious quantities of Chilean red wine. The only place to stay in Valpo..

  14. Nice owners and great view from the balcony, where we had some beautiful nights with barbecue and wine. The house is a little bit difficult to find. The atmosphere is very relaxed. In general the prices are very fair but of course increasing over new years eve as anywhere in Valparaiso.

  17. Quiet hostel that has a very 'at home' feeling. The American owner Kris is very laid-back and friendly. He will exchange travel stories over a cold beer on the rooftop terrace overlooking Valparaiso. The fully equipped kitchen with tons of leftovers is a big thumbs up! Only downside for us was the location. It's not especially far but at night it feels a bit dodgy walking up the small alleys.
